Our character was the Cleric who told a story about a king named Walter who was strong, handsome. He did not want to marry but his subjects were worried about not having someone to heir him. So with enough talking and persuasion, they convinced him to go on the look for a wife. Later on down the road, he found what in his eyes a beautiful woman who he sought to give happiness. This woman went by the name of Griselda. He then went to get permission from her father to get married and it was granted to him. Before they got married he told her that she must promise to yield to his authority in everything no matter what.
Some time went on and Grislide gave birth to a girl. This was Walters first chance to test his wife's loyalty. He told his wife that the townspeople have been complaining to him about how poor you are. So the king came up with the solution to kill his daughter. His wife does not say anything and is happy to agree with her husband. But in all reality he sent his daughter to his sisters to foster her. Four years went by since her daughter was gone and she had a son. Walter wants to keep testing his wife so he decides to use his son again. He tells his wife that the people are not happy because when he dies they will be ruled by a person that is poor. So he says that he has to kill his son to make the people happy. But instead of killing his son he sends him with his sister that is fostering the daughter.
The towns people start to get mad that the king “killed” his two kids and how he is married to someone who is considered to be poor. So he decides to tell his wife that he has to get married to someone else. The wife is ok with it and obeys him without any questions. She goes back to her father without saying anything. Walter calls for Grislde to come back to make the castle ready for his new wife. So she does and doesn't say anything. When the new “wife” shows up who is really her kids all she asks is that he won't treat his new wife the way he treated her. When Grisild said that he knew that she was obedient. Knowing this Walter decides to tell her the truth that her children are alive and that they are right by her. She is so surprised by this that she fainted several times. Walter got remarried to Grislde because he knew that she was willing to listen to his every order no matter what.
Contemporary Personality
As a group we had chosen to use King George III as our contemporary personality. The reason for this is because he was a king and also by the end of his time as king he had become mentally crazy for some reason. This relates to King Walter in The Cleric because he was also a King and we find him to be crazy because h threatened to kill his children and get re-married just to test his wife Griselda. https://www.royal.uk/ten-things-you-didnt-know-about-george-iii
